Plants, have co-evolved with animals and human culture as one of the primary foundations of life. As residents of their historic habitats, they create the structure and form of habitat as they intercept precipitation and solar radiation, create the fabric of a community (i.e. prairie, savanna, woodland) produce food, shelter and places to rest for animals and humans alike. In their natural form and in gardens, plants play a vital role in life’s existence. Yet, the globe is experiencing significant loss of biodiversity each year due to humans’ actions and behaviors on the land. By putting conservation design practices into use, however, habitat and biodiversity can be improved, one project at a time.
