Traditionally, roofs transport nearly all the precipitation that falls on them into underground drainages or out across
a landscape as a liability (See Figure 1). But, throughout history, there are examples of ways to take advantage of roof
water as a resource. Living roofs (green roofs), cisterns, rain barrels, dry wells, infiltration trenches and internal water
collection and reuse systems are being used in projects all across America. At Living Habitats, we see these ideas as
great opportunities for clients to take advantage of an approach to design that brings a natural beauty and respect for
natural order to their project (see Figure 2). |
