Patterns and
processes are fundamental descriptors of repeating
events that help shape and form
landscapes. They are intertwined
so much that they can be seen in
each other, but are also distinct ways to describe a particular reoccurring thing or |
| |
event. A pattern is anything that repeats itself.
A wide array of patterns can be readily identified in nature and
human culture, such as in our wide use of natural proportion. A process on the other hand, can
be understood as a sequence of
events or patterns that takes
place over time. |

Precipitation, for example, is a fundamental pattern, while
the significant events that contribute
to and influence precipitation
can be described as a
process. |
